SUSTAINABILITY

One of the most sustainable initiatives we as humans can take, is to cut down on the use of consumer goods. We, the people behind the brand Scandinavian Edition, are very aware of the responsibility we hold as a producer of consumer goods and we need to select our words carefully when addressing sustainability – we do not want to "green wash" our products.

We believe that the most sustainable approach always will be to make jackets of high quality – designed and built to stand the test of time. By using our power we have as consumers to choose high quality products over poorly made products, we can consume less and live more sustainable by making better choices. A Scandinavian Edition jacket is timeless and it does not follow «fast fashion» – our jackets, with their minimalist design, will be contemporary in years to come.

With regards to production – we do select materials with sustainability in mind, but only if they meet our strict criteria for durability. We would like to argue that something that is labelled sustainable but breaks easily and has to be replaced often, does not represent an optimal solution for sustainability. It is important to note that we would never use materials with known toxic or environmentally harmful components just to make our jackets last forever. We are continuously learning about new developments and technologies with regards to sustainable production.

Here are some of the examples sustainable initiatives/suppliers for our production of Scandinavian Edition jackets:

– Our outer fabric is «BLUESIGN approved». BLUESIGN is a system that provides safer and more sustainable environments for people to work in and everyone to live in.
– We use «EcoDown» by Thermore in many of our jackets, which comes from post-consumer plastic bottles.
– If we use real down, we use RDS Certified Down. The Responsible Down Standard (RDS) aims to ensure that down and feathers come from animals that have not been subjected to any unnecessary harm.

OUR STORY

Inspired by Scandinavian design as it emerged in the 1950's, we like the idea that beautiful and functional everyday objects should be made available to everyone.
